There used to be many things that I did on a regular basis that I enjoyed. Some of these things included reading books, writing in a journal (whether online or in a physical book), and getting out in nature.
I’ve noticed lately that my free time has been filled more and more with forms of taking in rather than giving of myself. Scrolling through facebook, I’m taking in from what others have posted without giving anything in return. The same goes for other social media, like Twitter, as well as other services like YouTube and Amazon Prime video. I’ve come to the realization that doing more taking instead of more giving is unhealthy for me on many levels, and so I’ve decided to start working on giving of myself more than I’m taking from others.
That ultimately leads me to this post, which is just a single step in the direction of giving of myself. This post won’t be shared on social media, as I’ve largely ceased using it. But my plan is to make more of an effort to post on this site regularly and sharing what I can. Sometimes those will be personal musings and introspection, and sometimes it will be useful things to other people.
I’ll also be looking for things in person where I can do more giving than taking. In my life right now, that will mostly be directed to my children and others in my immediate family. But in light of this, if you’re reading this and you think that I might be able to give you something in some way, don’t hesitate to ask.
